Ontario has recently lowered the age for colorectal cancer screening, a move a physician with the Ottawa Hospital says will help increase prevention of a disease that’s becoming increasingly common.
“I think it’s absolutely essential, and I’m really glad to see Ontario has moved forward with this,” Dr. Rebecca Auer, the Ottawa Hospital’s executive vice-president of research and innovation, told CTV’s Your Morning Ottawa on Wednesday.
On July 1, Ontario lowered the screening age from 50 to 45. For people at increased risk, the screening age is now 40. According to the Ottawa Hospital, this change will allow more than one million people in Ontario to access screening services sooner.
