Nova Scotia Health says its strategy to offer all health-care students at Dalhousie University a job is paying off, while one of the unions representing health-care workers says recruiters could go even further in convincing graduates to remain in the province.

"We're so fortunate to be able to have these students be engaged early with us, and we can start planning for their long-term career goals," said Laura O'Brien, the health authority's director of recruitment and volunteer services.

Nova Scotia started offering all graduates of Dalhousie health-care programs a job in 2021, after CBC revealed that the nursing society at Dalhousie had to initiate recruitment conversations even though the province had a desperate need for nurses.
