Filipino nurses remain underrepresented in leadership, academia and health policy despite their significant role in Canada’s healthcare system.
Dr. Freida Chavez, president of the Alliance of Filipino Nursing Professionals in Canada (AFNPC), said systemic barriers, limited mentorship and cultural expectations continue to make it difficult for Filipino nurses to move into positions where healthcare decisions are made.
AFNPC aims to help Filipino nurses advance beyond entry into the profession through mentorship, professional development and educational support.
